Waverton spots a Costa winner

We were delighted to hear that Nathan Filer, who spoke to us in November, has just won the Costa First Novel Prize for 2013. More details on the Costa site.

Paul Torday dies

We were saddened to read of the death, on 20th December 2013, of Paul Torday - author of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and winner of the 2007/08 Good Read Award.

Waverton Good Read Award has been recognised locally, nationally and even internationally since it was established in 2003. Some of the coverage and awards are listed below.

In 2005 Gwen and Wendy were nominated and shortlisted for ITV's Local Hero Award

In 2005 Wendy and Gwen visited La Cadiere and Dr Dufour who founded La Prix de La Cadière, the inspiration for the Waverton Good Read Award.

In 2004 Gwen Goodhew and Wendy Smedley were awarded Cheshire Rural Women Awards for their work with WGRA.

In 2010 WGRA was invited to represent the UK in Cuneo, Italy at a conference about debut novels. Following this, a partnership was established with a similar organisation in Chambéry, France.
