Every year the residents of Waverton make an award to the best British debut novel published in the previous 12 months.

2016/17 Winner announced

The winner, decided by ballot at the meeting on 23rd June, is Harry Parker for his novel Anatomy of a Soldier

WGRA at Waverton Carnival

The Good Read Award had a stall at Waverton Carnival as usual, selling the year's books to raise funds for next year. Pictures in EVENTS AND MEETINGS

Next Meetings

The schedule of speaker dates for next year (2017/18) is:

Tuesday 19th September 2017: The speaker is to be announced.
Tuesday 28th November 2017: The speaker will be Annabelle Thorpe, author of last year's runner-up The People We Were Before.
Tuesday 9th January 2018: long listing meeting; The speaker is to be announced.
Tuesday 27th March 2018: short listing meeting; The speaker is to be announced.
Tuesday 26th June 2018: voting meeting; The speaker is to be announced.

Meetings are at 7.30pm in Burley Hall, Old Waverton. All are welcome: 2 on the door.

The Award Dinner will be held at Eaton Golf Club on Friday 20th October 2017.

Children's Award winner

The winner of the 2016-17 Award is Laurel Remington for her book The Secret Cooking Club. We hope that Laurel will come to Waverton and Capenhurst, to talk to the children who voted for her, later this year.
